Local IQ – Eco Adventures

New program developed by the New Mexico Department of Tourism promotes environmental and cultural travel inside state borders

From the Gila Wilderness to Taos Pueblo, New Mexico
offers travelers untamed nature, deep cultural roots and adventures of
many stripes. So why not show it off? In an effort to do just that, the New Mexico Department of Tourism recently launched a new “ectourism” program for both out-of-state and in-state travelers.
Ecotourism is an experiential, environmentally
conscientious and culturally focused form of travel — and a growing
trend in the travel industry. Ecotourists like to experience nature in
places like the Gila National Forest, or archeological history such as that found at New Mexico’s Bandelier National Monument, or culturally significant locales like Georgia O’Keeffe’s home in Abiquiu.
